La sua rifondazione rimonta ad oltre i tre secoli. Secondo un tale Ascione, autore di una plagiata memoria sulla Torre del Greco, le fondamenta dell\u2019edificio furono iniziate nel 1566 da un certo Alberto Napolitano. Lo storico Balzano nel suo libro dice che il complesso era posto all&#8217;uscire della citt\u00e0 verso Torre Annunziata e che era assai antico, e accenna ad un documento del 1565 che riguarda un legato fatto al convento da un tale Andrea Spano per notaio Ambrosio Palomba.
