Ricostruita in gran parte dopo le eruzioni del 1794 e del 1861, si estende in pendio, sul suolo accidentato, dal mare verso il Vesuvio e pu\u00f2 essere distinta in quattro zone. La prima zona \u00e8 quella media, che costituisce il centro: ha il lungo Corso Vittorio Emanuele ed \u00e8 chiusa come in un cerchio fra Via Diego Colamarino, Piazza S. Croce, Largo Comizi, Via Beato V. Romano, Corso Umberto I, Piazza L. Palomba, Via Purgatorio, Via Circumvallazione. In questa vi sono quasi tutti i monumenti cittadini, quali le chiese di S. Teresa dei Carmelitani, di S. Maria del Popolo, di S. Croce, della Madonna delle Grazie, di, S. Michele, dell\u2019Assunta, di S. Maria di Costantinopoli, della Madonna del Carmine, il vecchio palazzo Comunale, il Museo del Corallo, ecc. La seconda zona \u00e8 quella bassa della Marina formatasi sul \u201dmare \u2019seccato\u201d e va lungo la direttrice Calastro -Via Fontana &#8211; Via Cavour &#8211; Via S. Giuseppe alle Paludi: presenta le chiese di S. Pietro e S. Maria del Principio, di S. Maria di Portosalvo, di S.
