All\u2019inizio degli studi classici venne indotto dal padre a proseguire gli studi presso il Seminario di Nola. Nel 1872, dopo due anni di studi religiosi, ritorna a Napoli dove riprende gli studi classici, ma come asserisce il d\u2019Alasia, il Cesaro, non fu mai propenso allo studio delle antiche lingue venendo addirittura rimandato in greco tra il quarto e il quinto ginnasio. Dopo l\u2019esperienza negativa classica, su consiglio del padre, accett\u00f2 di recarsi a Liegi presso suo fratello maggiore, Giuseppe. Nelle vesti di suo tutore, il Giuseppe, seppe seguire con ottimi risultati gli studi del fratello con la conseguente ammissione al celebre istituto \u00c9cole des Mines.
