Sono 50 le fiabe e meglio i racconti che Giambattista Basile scrisse in lingua napoletana. Dato alle stampe fra il 1634 e il 1636 a Napoli, lo Cunto riscosse grandissimo successo tra le corti, i salotti bene di Napoli, ma anche tra la gente comune.<br \/>\nL&#8217;opera, di una bellezza linguistica incomparabile, dato il periodo storico, si rese nota anche come il Pentamerone. Una storia avvincente composta per cinque giornate, ci viene raccontata da 10 novellatrici. Indubbio il rapporto letterario che ispir\u00f2 l&#8217;opera e che \u00e8 da identificare nel Decameron di Boccaccio. Nel Cunto, tuttavia c&#8217;\u00e8 l&#8217;anima napoletana che si respira non solo nel linguaggio ma anche nei temi trattati. Le atmosfere sono quelle del Medioevo, descritte in modo fiabesco e adattate ai motivi popolari; non a caso spesso gli attori delle fiabe sono i personaggi miseri, poveri e dimenticati, trovati tra i mille vicoli di Napoli di quei tempi. Se per un verso i temi trattati sono espressi per bocca del popolo poco colto, essi contenendo valori complessi, filosofici e criptici, sono destinati agli adulti. L&#8217;autore consegn\u00f2 cos\u00ec un patrimonio di massime, di aneddoti morali, di lazzi spiritosi e mirabolanti a tutti.
